Fluffy Water: A Guide to Long Exposure Waterscapes
Animals, Plants & Nature Week
Most of you nature photographers will have seen long-exposed waterscapes resulting in the peculiar soft aspect of water. If you haven't, or if you're not a nature photographer, here are a few examples:
In this article I will be sharing some ideas and tips which hopefully will get you interested in this kind of photography first of all; and if that marvellous personal paradigm shift takes place within you, give you the basics in achieving the sought-after results.
Who am I to dare do this ?
Well this is quite important: I'm nothing fancy, just a nature photography-loving guy with a cheap entry-level DSLR an

Vintage Cars
I was trying hard to think where I could find a nice collection of Vintage Car images when I suddenly remembered Vintagenic (https://www.deviantart.com/vintagenic) a lovely group that was brought to my attention sometime ago by Kezzi-Rose (https://www.deviantart.com/kezzi-rose) It's a fantastic group if you are into Vintage Photography but in particular there is a wonderful Vintage Car Gallery that is definitely worth a browse.

Gallery Descriptions: Conceptual Photos
Galleries month
Conceptual Photography is a genre in which the photographer attempts to illustrate a specific concept or idea to convey a message. Some Conceptual photographs are seemingly captured with luck or spontaneity, but, for the most part, Conceptual photographs are created carefully and strategically - deliberately. There are many ways of achieving Conceptual photographs without the use of manipulation. The featured piece below is one of the most popular Conceptual photographs on DeviantART which perfectly sums up the genre. For further educational articles check out the Conceptual Gallery at projecteducate (https://www.deviantart.com/projecteducate)

Gallery Descriptions: Still Life Photos
Galleries month
There are four sub-categories to the Still Life Photography Gallery here on deviantART. There are plenty of places to categorise your work correctly and if you're not sure where to go then there's always the last resort of the 'Other' Category. For more information check out the Still Life Project Educate Gallery.
Still Life involves attention to detail and careful preparation in setting up various, inanimate subject matters to photograph. Things that are often taken into account are composition, lighting, inclusion of props and more. In this sense, Still Life is very much controlled. The main aspect of Still Life to remembe

EDUARDO GAJEIRO a Portuguese photographer
Street Photography Week
Eduardo Gajeiro, born in 1923 in Sacavém, Portugal, is one of that country's best photographers. His first photograph was published on the front page of the Portuguese journal Diário de Notícias at twelve years old. Today, nearly eighty years later, he is still working as a freelance photographer.
His is a life full of amazing experiences. He worked at the Fábrica de Loiça de Sacavém in the 1940s and 1950s to document the life of its workers, heavily influencing his decision to become a photojournalist. When he was twenty years old, he collaborated with several magazines and journals inc

Lighting in Portrait Photography
People and Portraits week
Hello everyone,
I'm writing this tutorial of sorts, for all of you portrait photographers out there seeking advice about the lighting in your photographs. First off let me be clear in saying that I am no expert, or rather I do not claim to be, I sometimes do things in unusual ways, and my tips and advice are definitely not the only ones you should follow. This journal is just me giving you my take on how to get great lighting for your shots :)
1. Never shoot when the sun is at its highest peak.
Depending on where you live and your climate, this might vary, but I usually never shoot between the hours of 12-4 unles

Photojournalism The Easy Way
Photojournalism
I hope that this article finds a more extended audience than the hard-core photojournalist. To a large extent travel-vacation photography also lies within the scope of photojournalism. When one ventures out in the open with a camera, willingly or unwillingly one does point the camera at strangers, buildings, places to capture ambience and memories. Although I have never had the luxury to actually just go somewhere for the sole purpose of photography, I do a fair bit of globe trotting and take the opportunity to capture life around me when I can.
I can tell you, over the years I have made many mistakes and paid the price and i

Galleries Description - Cosplay
Gallery Descriptions
Cosplay Photography is a genre in which people showcase their costume making skills, photography and/or modelling skills, and their ability to embody a character from television, books, comics, movies, popular culture, or original designs. The complexity of the gallery is immediately noticed by the quality of the costumes portrayed, and the cosplayers themselves take the time to make them as accurate as possible. Also featured is con photography, and while generally speaking it not the cosplayer posting them, they are still an interesting look in to the culture. Gallery Descriptions: Horror/Macabre Photography
Gallery Descriptions
Horror/Macabre Photography is a genre in which the photographer or model(s) and makeup artists attempt to portray a eerie, creepy, disgusting or disturbing scene. The entire idea of the genre is to shock and scare, and generally create a feeling of unease. Horror/Macabre photography is an acquired taste, as some of the images captured are ideologically sensitive, brutal, and can be hard on the stomach or the eyes. To qualify for the horror/macabre photography gallery the same rules apply as to all photography submissions, which includes minimal editing and manipulation, which in turn brings about spectacular creativity wh

Masters of Darkroom
Darkroom Photography
The first photograph created was an image produced in 1826 by Nicephore Niepce. He did this on a polished pewter plate covered with a petroleum derivative called Bitumen of Judea. The image required an eight hour exposure time in bright sunshine. We've come so far since those days and those lengths of times to achieve an amazing image - but at the same time it's great to give a nod to the past, learn the basics from the basics and turn to the masters of their field for some inspiration and reminders about just how rewarding Darkroom photography can be.

How would you explain the concept of abstraction/surrealism to someone who has never heard of it before?
If someone had never heard of abstract art before, I would ask them to listen to it, hear what it has to say to you.
It is interesting to see what kind of titles people give to abstract works, when I look at my finished art which doesn’t have a title, it usually suggests something to me. If it gives me an obvious answer I will ask it for something different, sometimes I wait while it thinks of a better answer.
Some people name their works after the music they have been listeni

It is necessary to point out first of all, that this article is not about landscape or portrait photography at all. Their main subject does not provide much room for interpretation because it is designed to appeal to aesthetical senses. It also is not about spontaneous snapshots – in which the photographer has to give up much of his or her control about what appears in their viewfinder. And, it’s also not about photography that is created just for the purpose of decoration and therefore usually does not have such a conceptual depth as the work which this article explores. I

How would you explain the concept of abstraction/surrealism to someone who has never heard of it before?
Abstraction (and surrealism) in visual arts are expressions that don't claim to represent reality (an object, a subject or an actual scenery). Abstract art is non-figurative, but opens up to imaginary figures and scenes.
:bigthumb273338987:
What inspires you to use the concept of abstraction/surrealism for your artwork?
As with all categories and labels, they can be useful to sort out and separate. But categories are never clean-cuts and shall not be used as limitations. That's why

How would you explain the concept of abstraction/surrealism to someone who has never heard of it before?
Surrealism refers to certain definite codes rooted in psychoanalysis, philosophy etc. and favours associative, non-logical processes like in dreams or automatic writing. Whereas abstraction is rather a personal vision of reality at a given time. In photography, abstraction often leads to a poetic approach, but also gives the opportunity of experimenting.
