Project Educate: Suggesting Horror/Macabre DD's!:iconprojecteducate:Suggesting Horror/Macabre Photography Daily Deviations:Suggesting daily deviations can be somewhat of a daunting experience. There are old hats at the game, who suggest consistantly, but for somebody who has never done it before, or who wants to self-suggest their work, it can be a bit scary. The horror/macabre photography gallery is only a tiny section of deviantART, it's hallowed halls are small and dusty, and sometimes it is overlooked. For those who are interested in the gooey, gory goodness contained within them, though, here are a few tips and tricks to suggesting a daily deviation. What is a Daily Deviation?:faq61:A daily deviation is a feature given to a small assortment of deviations every day, chosen by staff and volunteer members who want to show a wider audience an image they feel is deserving. What should I look for?A
Project Educate: A Brief History of Horror:iconprojecteducate:Project Educate: A Brief History of Horror:No passion so effectually robs the mind of all its powers of acting and reasoning as fear. -EDMUND BURKEReal life, historical life, has given us a pretty good indication of what frightens us as a collective. We have expounded on the elements of horror from wars, psychological experimentation and illness, serial killers, superstitions and folklore, etc. Before there was a way to express horrific events in still frame, we had literature, and word of mouth. Eventually, literature was adapted to movies, and with movies came photography. Without all of those elements, we would never have a horror genre. Without a built in want to be scared, or shocked, it never would have grown to the proportions it has over the last 150 years! We seem to enjoy being sca
Welcome to Horror/Macabre Photography PE Week!Welcome to Horror/Macabre Photography Week (October 29th-November 5th)!:iconprojecteducate:What is horror/macabre?Dictionary.com describes horror as being an overwhelming or painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying or revolting. It also tells us that macabre means gruesome, ghastly, of or suggestive of the allegorical dance of death.Now-a-days, terrifying objects of the past no longer seem to apply to us in the same way that they used to. It has become harder and harder to scare people, but the fascination remains the same.We all like to be scared, or try to feel afraid, whether it be from riding a roller coaster or watching a gory movie in the dark, alone, with the lights out. This week, I will try to cover some bases on the genre. We'll go from the basics and origins of horror and macabre photography, to interviews with some spooky folks who seem to specialize in scary, to tutorials and features!October 29th to November 5th (In no

Project Educate Interviews: Porcelainpoet:iconprojecteducate:Project Educate Interviews: `PorcelainPoet :`PorcelainPoet is a well recognized photographer around the halls of deviantART; her stunning, and sometimes shocking images are meticulously crafted and brought to life, then shared with us here for all of us to enjoy as well. She was gracious enough to offer me the opportunity to ask her a few questions on her craft.1) What was your first camera, and what did you foresee yourself doing with it? Did you imagine that you would be a nature photographer, or a portrait photographer, or was it an easy transition to creating darker work for you?`PorcelainPoet - I think my first camera was a Kodak point and shoot. Something as small as maybe 5.0 megapixels. I just knew I wanted to start doing portraits with it. And I didn't have any models yet, so I used myself. I was doing daily self portrait sessions for my first year or so of photography exploration. At that time I was 15
Project Educate: Variations of Sinister:iconprojecteducate:Project Educate: Variations of Sinister:When one thinks of the horror and macabre genre, they probably think about blood, guts, and shocking images depicting death and severe harm. But there is another side to the scary, a side that uses less color, less shock value effects, and imagination and subtlety ro produce a chilling image.Things such as ghosts, forests, graveyards, abandoned houses - all of these can be used as fitting and suitable models for a very spooky scene. Some might argue, with a great amount of merit, that an abandoned house can make a better model than a human being. They have a good point, though it lacks personality, for an abandoned house has its own story to tell, but it is one that can be brought out only in visual images or written word, for unlike a human model, it cannot speak and share. One of the most popular ways to express a situation using a model is throug

Do you do anything other than this, photography wise?*Anathema-Photography - "I’ve always indulged in the `spooky` images, but have been professionally shooting horror for almost 4 years."2: Could you give us a reason why you started in the field of horror and macabre work?:idevanathema-photography: - "I've always had a fascination with the dark side of life.
